Clearly, there are nuances that may not be captured in this format. The goal here is to provide you with helpful counselling tips which often draw from multiple sources or those which are not commonly accessed by busy healthcare providers serving the community.

Counselling Conundrum: "I am 37 years old and have smoked since I was 12 years old. Isn't it too late to really benefit if I quit now?"

Concise Conclusion: There is actually research showing that if you quit before 40 years old, you live as long as those that have never smoked. So it's especially worth it at your age, before you get older.

Quick Wrap-up: Of course, quitting at any age is virtually guaranteed to provide some health benefit. This doesn't mean that those who quit before 40 years old will not still have impaired health compared to never smokers, but for example their CV risk returns to normal after about 15 years.
