Counselling Conundrum: "As an adult, is caffeine healthy for me? Should I avoid it because it's bad for sleep?"
Concise Conclusion: Great question! As long as you aren't experiencing side effects (problems sleeping, anxiety, tremors, withdrawal, and so on), most studies seem to suggest a benefit across many areas, like gout, Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease, diabetes, liver health and others.
Quick Wrap-up: There is also some data showing reduced all-cause mortality. We don't discourage caffeine in our practice unless there are related issues with its use. Recommend a maximum of 400 mg per day as rule of thumb, and to keep it earlier in the day to minimize sleep effects.
