Counselling Conundrum: "My Physician Assistant told me I should be vaccinated against pneumonia (I never have), as I am a senior, but to ask you which one you recommend. Which is best?"
Concise Conclusion: There's actually a new one that just came out called Prevnar 20. I would recommend you get that one; it's one dose and you've got the best protection available.
Quick Wrap-up: The days of Prevnar 13 then Pneumovax 20 8 weeks later are gone. The eligibility criteria for Prevnar 20 are similar to Prevnar 13, but no booster is needed, and it works better. Give it 5 years after Prevnar 13/Pneumovax 20 series, or 1 year after Prevnar 13 only. Keep in mind, Vaxneuvance 15 then Pneumovax 23 1 year later is also an option.
