1. Counselling Conundrum: a real question from a patient

2. Concise Conclusion: a straight-forward patient-friendly answer

3. Quick Wrap-up

Clearly, there are nuances that may not be captured in this format. The goal here is to provide you with helpful counselling tips which often draw from multiple sources or those which are not commonly accessed by busy healthcare providers serving the community.

Counselling Conundrum: "I have glaucoma, and I use these eye drops that go in the fridge. I've been having eye pain lately, should I use an extra drop?"

Concise Conclusion: If you're experiencing pain in your eye, that is a good reason to see your Eye Doctor as soon as you can. This medication actually works best at a dose of 1 drop in the evening, so adding an extra drop may actually worsen the situation.

Quick Wrap-up: Intra-ocular pressure reduction is greatest with a single drop daily, in the evening. This is because lying down decreases aqueous outflow, which means pressure is higher. That being said, any higher dosing or morning dosing is an easy DTP to catch and rectify.
