2. Concise Conclusion: a straight-forward patient-friendly answer

3. Quick Wrap-up

Clearly, there are nuances that may not be captured in this format. The goal here is to provide you with helpful counselling tips which often draw from multiple sources or those which are not commonly accessed by busy healthcare providers serving the community.

Counselling Conundrum: "When you say to shake my puffer well, what exactly does that mean? Should I aim for a number of shakes, an amount of time, or what?"

Concise Conclusion: As long as you're shaking it, I would not worry too much. However, three or four shakes is typically enough.

Quick Wrap-up: This is another one of those questions that only pharmacists are likely to know, yet not many do. Three or four shakes is usually enough to mix the medication with the propellant of an MDI, before each dose. Check out our previous newsletter, "To Shake or Not To Shake" for tips on which do NOT require shaking.
