Counselling Conundrum: "My doctor switched me from gabapentin to pregabalin. Isn't it the same?"

Concise Conclusion: Excellent question! While they work the same, pregabalin is more readily absorbed, and so lower doses are required to get a similar benefit. More 'bang for your buck'. You probably were taking a large amount of gabapentin and starting to see less benefit.

Quick Wrap-up: Absorption of gabapentin is saturable, which means at some point higher doses don't yield higher concentrations - it is not a linear response.
