Counselling Conundrum: "My last Pharmacist switched my rizatriptan tablet to the wafers so it works faster. How much faster does it work?"

Concise Conclusion: As a rule of thumb, medications that dissolve in the mouth or under the tongue tend to work faster. However, in this case the wafer is absorbed a little slower. On the upside, it's easier to take if you're on the go.

Quick Wrap-up: Rizatriptan orally dissolving wafers have the same Cmax as the tablets, however the Tmax is roughly twice as long as it is still absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The main purpose of the wafers here is convenience (no water needed, saliva is sufficient).
